Vanuatu Accommodation Chez Troppo, Port Vila, Efate Island Sustainability

Annie, Manager

Welcome to Chez Troppo, from Annie and "Troppo" and "Coconut" (4-legged companions)

Hi, I'm Annie, the "creator' of Chez Troppo you might say. It has been the realization of a long held dream to have ended up here, and for this "one-off chapter in mylife", to have a unique opportunity to live in such a gorgeous location in Vanuatu with friendly village surroundings to share with the outside world.

Daily life here consists of waking up to the magic sound of distant surf breaking on surrounding reef and the gentle drone of a village boat crossing the lagoon from the mainland to Erakor Island. The lagoon's crystal clear water fuses with the sun's rays producing a sensational ever changing kaleidoscope of photogenicblues and aquamarines.Tropical flowers forever bursting into bloom in the tropical heat. 200 degree panoramic sunsets as guests languish on the verandah's to catch the famous blue light of a fading tropical skyline.

It is definitely a far cry from my past life of bone cracking winters!

After living 17 years as a Londoner, 5 years at sea with P&O Cruises, I discovered this part of the South Pacific. I feel privileged to have stumbled across this paradise and rediscovered the word "simplicity" all beyond my wildest dreams, neighbouring NiVanuatu smiles captured my heart and this is it!!!

Caring for destination

This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:

We are fully committed to working closely with our indigenous neighbours by financially supporting the local Erakor Village; sponsoring village cultural development, local infrastructure and assisting the local youth.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

- Two 5,000 litre rain water tanks shared on the property.  This water is available to the local neighbours in times of need.
- Provide employment for local gardeners and housekeeper.
- Provide employment indirectly to local villagers for the supply of fresh flowers and fruits.
- Ongoing provision of school fees to neighbours children.
- Restored and maintain existing house on the estate which was originally built by a chief.  This chief was the first licensed NiVanuatu builder in 1952. The main residence is perhaps the longest standing building on this part of the island.
- Provided bricks and cement to locals for building their family home
- Provided cement to fill road pot holes.
- Provided neighbours with use of cement mixer and tools for building needs.

Having travelled extensively, we feel incredibly fortunate to have stumbled across the Erakor people who have embraced our dream of building "Chez Troppo"; it doesn't get much better than this.

Regardless if you stay at Chez Troppo or not, it is a great idea to bring and use clothing that you will not need in the future, this way you can leave them behind for the villagers. We are happy to ensure it goes to the neediest in their community.
