Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
At Iririki Island Resort and Spa we support sustainable tourism initiatives in Vanuatu. As a responsible company, we realize our guests benefit from having a better cared for destination. As part of our ongoing commitment to the community and environment, Iririki Island Resort & Spa has helped with the installation of a major water treatment plant on the island. Following extensive environmental impact research, the plant is now fully operational and treats all the raw sewage and waste water of the island, then converts it into re-usable gray water. The plant reduces sewage leakage into the ocean by 100%, produces gray water for garden irrigation (therefore reducing natural water usage by 70%), and created employment for 3 local people. By introducing a new form of recycling for the Vanuatu hospitality industry, the environmental quality of the area can be better maintained for both visitors and locals to enjoy. We are also involved in a variety of other environmentally and community friendly projects that helps make tourism more sustainable in Vanuatu.
