Kalo will pick you up from the airport with his 4WD utility truck. After a pleasant 10-minute drive, you find yourself at Point Donceur (see photo library).
A 20-minute boat ride over the deep blue coral water of Gaspard Bay passing stunning Sakao Island and Cook Bay will find you at the fishing village of Peskarus (population 1,000) on Maskelyne Island. Hop out of the boat and feel the warm sheltered waters and soft sand as you are welcomed by the people of Peskarus. After a 10-minute walk, you have crossed the island to Malog Bungalow where you will be greeted with fresh coconuts to drink.
The ocean around the Maskelynes is as clear as you will find anywhere and is teeming with fish, turtles, and lobsters. In the surrounding mangroves, mud crabs and oysters are prolific.
Numerous local tours can be organised through Kalo, owner of Malog Bungalows, such as snorkelling to see his protected clams, custom dances, sailing and paddling in a local canoe to the neighbouring Batghutong and Khuneveo Islands.
Note to all our valued travellers, this accommodation provider caters to an adventure traveller who accepts that they are trading some of the "little luxuries and comforts" found in other accommodation providers in this website for the location, convenience or budgetary reasons.
There are a number of walks around the island and it's all flat! Go to the other side via the forests and see giant clams in an underwater garden or find secluded beaches full of live and dead shells. Other activities include the native outrigger canoe ride or with Kalo's speedboat, to other neighbouring islands. Snorkel and swim in the channel, to see the prolific underwater life in the mangroves - the womb of the ocean, full of oysters, crabs, fish, squids, shells, and turtles.
Everywhere you go in the Maskelynes you will find friendly people, who will accompany you to wherever you want. They are generally more interested in discovering what your world is like.
Bring your own snorkelling gear.
