Caring for destination

This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:

Conserve water and energy in the short term and reduce the harmful effects which conventional water and energy usage has on the environment in the long term.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

At the time of building the hotel, we have kept sustainable tourism in mind by installing large rainwater tanks and solar energy panels. The hotel is designed to utilise as much rain water as possible.

Furthermore, Santo is a place where there is an abundance of sunshine, which makes it ideal to use solar energy. The hotel is designed to utilise solar energy for it's water supply to reduce the amount of conventional energy used in heating water. However, should there be a rainy day, we also have a backup hot water system to ensure that guests will always have access to hot water when the need arises.

To further reduce the amount of conventional energy used by guests, the hotel is equipped with power activation keys enabling power usage only when the guests are in their room. Should the guests leave the room with their room key, all power is switched off. We believe by doing so, it is not only the hotel doing its part in conserving energy, but also all the guests that come to stay with us.
