Vanuatu Accommodation Turtle Bay Inn, Tanna Island Your Host

Gilian & Maurice Loulergue

Turtle Bay Inn could be described as an antidote to civilization. It is the fulfillment of a fiercely determined, yet timid man. His name is Maurice Loulergue. A well read, independent and resourceful individual that has carved a lifestyle of tranquility for himself and his guests. In contrast, his gregarious cosmopolitan wife Gilian is the life of this hidden haven.

After 30 years living in upbeat New Caledonia, Maurice, a construction engineer by profession was recruited to be part of the building team for the Santo airport. Immediately awe struck at Vanuatu's natural beauty and its joyous people, Maurice's future plans were in motion.

Maurice and Gilian found on the island of Tanna, their special slice of paradise and started to build the Turtle Bay Inn five years ago. All hand built from local forest wood and palms.

The beachfront lodges face the only ocean lagoon on Tanna and has excellent cross winds for kite sailing and windsurfing in splendid surrounds and easy forest walking tracks.

"If my coffee shop friends in Cannes could see me now, they would flip! I wake up to gentle rolling waves, have a lobster for breakfast with my Tanna coffee followed by a walk to the organic village gardens for the days shopping. At night, I welcome back my guests returning from the live volcano trip with an open fire in the restaurant and off course with good French Bordeaux....c'est la vie!"
