This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:  


Village de Santo Resort managers Bev and Nabil Anti with assistance from the ANZ Bank Vanuatu Santo Branch put in an indigenous saving plan for all the staff.  Encouraging staff to have regular savings and teaching them the benefit long term saving  for the future of their families.

The resort also uses tank water and environmentally friendly cleaning and kitchen products. Energy saving light fittings are used - even in the garden, Three Ozzie clean bio systems have been installed, Rooms have been designed to make use of the tropical breezes with wooden slated cyclone proof windows allow for a cooling cross breeze and ceiling fans on the mezzanine level and bottom floor. Restaurant 1606 supports local farmers by creating a seasonal menu that incorporates food that can be sourced from the local markets, which supports many families in Santo

Community projects

Outlined below are some of the many community projects Village de Santo Resort has partaken in so far……

  • Assisting a new committee at Mango Station to develop sustainable tourism projects to raise money for their community.
  • Coordinating and travelling to the Rainforest World Music Festival 2011 in Borneo and Brisbane French Festival 2011 with NiVanuatu Leweton Water Music Ladies.
  • Successful link between Village de Santo Resort, Rotary in North East Victoria and SCU University Australia in raising aid for new infrastructure at Mango Station.
  • New relationship between Dunoon Public School in NSW Australia and Mango Station School to raise money for musical instruments while promoting healthy cultural exchange between the two schools.
  • Assisting the Sanma Frangipani Association for the disabled in Santo by raising funds to help build a new assessment centre.  
  • The formulation of a sister kinda program between Mango Kindy and            Samford Pines Daycare, Samford Village, Brisbane.
  • Employment and training of local Ni Vanuatu hospitality staff through the Resort this includes Training of Hospitality students from the nearby Island of Ambei in Vanuatu.

Music projects

Music is such a vital part of the Ni Vanuatu way of life and Village de Santo Resort places great importance in promoting and supporting local music and performers such projects consist of …….

  • Donating insulation to complete Canal Music Studio for the youth centre.
  • Beverley and Nabil are active committee members for Canal Studios-Musik blog yu mi (music for all) a nonprofit association in Santo. The Resort fund raises for the repair and purchase of musical instruments through the weekly Music Functions.
  • Musical exchange between Australian and Ni Vanuatu bands, giving the chance for local bands to receive international exposure.
  • Encouraging and promoting live local music weekly at the Resort.
