Tamanu On The Beach Resort's Baby Turtles

We take great pleasure in highlighting accommodation providers that address environmental, social or cultural issues which contribute positively to the long term viability of our country Vanuatu.

Tamanu On the Beach Resort is working with the Vanuatu Fisheries Department in an effort to develop a strategy and marine conservation area in order for the turtles that used to nest on Tamanu Beach to return.

Resort Manager, Rachael Whitelaw reports: “Exciting news John! Here are the photos of the second hatchlings of turtles on our beach last night, they made it to the water having avoided the Hermit Crab Army!”

Tamanu's On The Beach strategies and action plans are based on fulfilling 100% Authentic & Organic sustainability. The Owners see themselves as the guardians of this magical place, and as such ensure the resort is managed accordingly.

altTamanu's On The Beach future plans include –

•    The construction of higher standard living quarters for its indigenous staff
•    Better education opportunities for their children
•    Expanding of the resort's accommodation and facilities whilst maintaining the ecological integrity of Tamanu on the Beach.

altGuests are encouraged to contribute to the Tamanu Children's Education Fund by donating school resources to assist with the education of the staff's children: for example, school exercise books, children's story books either in English or French suitable for children up to 11 years of age, colouring books, colouring pencils or pens, pencil cases and other basic school items.

altTamanu will also be developing an organic recycling and cottage gardening program in an effort to grow all the produce required by the restaurant. Part of this program will be the education of the staff to new environmentally sustainable techniques and creating a greater self sufficiency for the resort.

Tamanu On the Beach uses bore water and manages water usage closely.

The introduction and use of power efficient light globes has already been implemented.
